The Beds are Done!!

Every year, Mike gets the itch to do some kind of project. Last February, it was fixing the bathrooms. This year, it was beds. With the new baby coming, we needed to move Avery out of the crib. Bailey was also in dire need of a bed as she was still sleeping in a toddler bed.

We got the plans from http://ana-white.com. The bed we chose was the simple bed. It was pretty simple, but also very very time consuming. It took us three months from pine boards to finished beds. The building of it didn't take too long, once Mike had the right tools, it was the painting and finishing.

After hours of sanding, painting, distressing, and polycrylicing, we were finally done! Well, almost done. We had a little hiccup putting them together, because after all, nothing can be as easy as it should be. We also didn't talk into account how the head board and foot board have a little over hang so that we can't push the bed all the way against the wall. So, there is a child size gap between the bed and the wall. We fixed that problem by stuffing big pillows/animals against the wall. All and all, I'm really happy with how they turned out.

The girls love them. They both cried when we took down their old beds, and I was really worried about Avery. She really doesn't like change. I took the girls to Target to pick out new sheets to help ease the change. On the big day, to my surprise, she told us she wanted to move rooms too. And once the beds were built and her new sheets were on the bed, she never mentioned the crib at all.

Apparently she loved her sheets so much, she decided to really make them her own:

I was putting her down for quiet time when I noticed the cuts all the way down her sheets. She had cut them!! I was/am so mad! They are only a week old, and already she has destroyed them. She took her scissors and cut holes all the way down the length of the sheet. I am not a seamstress, and I'm not even sure that they can be fixed.

Since we finished this project, I have all kinds of projects I want us to do. Maybe Mike and I will get a headboard too. But probably not. I think we both need a break from painting.

Baby Oh Baby

A few weeks ago we got out last ultrasound and the ultrasound tech surprised us by switching over to 4D (I don't know what 4D is, or how it is different than 3D). The pictures were amazing! Mike and I sat there, both thinking the same thing: she looks a lot like one of our girls. Who do you think she looks like?

I guess we will find out for sure in a few weeks!
